Whalley Chamber of Trade is a local ‘not for profit’ organisation which exists for the benefit of local businesses. Formed in 1994, the Chamber of Trade thrives due to the enthusiasm and involvement of its members.
Whalley Chamber of Trade is currently working on a number of exciting new projects aimed at encouraging local residents to use local businesses/services as well as attracting new visitors to the area and generating tourism. Some of the recent events have been the Whalley Market, Whalley Live Festival and Whalley Fashion Show.
The Chamber is a member of Ribble Valley Tourism Association which also provides information and access to Lancashire and Blackpool Tourism Board on all relevant activities and projects happening within our area this enables us to co-ordinate activities to benefit the whole region and as a group be aware of future plans as a representative from the chamber attends every meeting.
Member’s subscription monies are used to finance various projects, such as the ones outlined below:
Whalley Chamber of Trade Website
The Chamber of Trade have launched a website which can be viewed at www.visitwhalley.com
All Chamber of Trade members’ details are included on the site including contact details and a link to the member’s own website. Over the coming months the website will be developed further as we are looking at developing a new logo and including more information on the ‘What’s On’ guide as well as links to other local organisations and amenities.
www.visitwhalley.com is being promoted in the ‘Ribble Valley Visitor Guide’ which is available from the tourist information office and also widely distributed throughout the UK. We are also in the process of introducing new Tourist Information points in Whalley. We are listed on the Ribble Valley Tourism website, Made in Lancashire and also have links on many other websites.
Whalley Chamber of Trade was instrumental in arranging and promoting a market for the village. The focus of this project was to promote Whalley and local businesses. The setting up and promotion of the market was only possible with the financial support of member subscriptions. The market will return in 2011 and be ran seasonally rather than every month.
We have commissioned three notice boards around the village. These include a map and information about the village, as well as giving local businesses opportunity to promote themselves through advertising. The notice boards are located at the bus station and on both platforms of the train station.
Benefiting local causes is important to us and we support worthy causes in Whalley from youth groups and charities though its fund-raising events. In recent years we have supported Whalley Juniors Football Club, Whalley Cricket Club, First Responders, The Bethany Project, Whalley Playground Action Group, to name but a few.
The provision of Christmas trees along the main street in Whalley is funded soley by Whalley Chamber of Trade membership subscriptions and this year due to donations we were able to purchase brand new Christmas lights for the whole high street which will adorn the lampposts on King Street making Whalley quite literally shine!
